Beauty Bay X Nikkie Tutorials Palette | Review

I received the Beauty Bay x Nikkie Tutorials eyeshadow palette as a gift recently, and although I have never watched her personally (I've heard a lot of good things though), I was really interested in the palettes design anyway. I love the contrasting features. If you have never seen this palette before one side is dark and mysterious and the other half is bright and vibrant. These are reflected in the shades which lie underneath the specific sides of the palette. The left side is full of bright shades, containing light blues, yellows and pinks. While the other half is dark with reds, browns and greens. So you could use either sides for different looks depending on what you are feeling on a specific day. You could mix the two sides together to create a full look also as the middle of the palette blends the palette together to keep it cohesive.

I love the duality of the palette. It has some shades which I feel are not usually included in a regular palette. I love the deep red, Mikai, the light blue, Plot Twist, and the bright orange, Redemption, as they are colours I haven't seen in a palette I own. They're all very vibrant so this palette is very good value if you love to play with colour and different designs. The darker shades are very pigmented and they may be a little bit harder to take off, which is both a good and bad thing. The shimmer shades are very pretty on also and they don't dull when put on.

The palette includes 20 pressed pigment shades altogether. They do seem like a random mix of shades but I do think they go together well. I think it's a good mix of neutrals and bright shades. It sometimes seems hard to see how they all go together but I think seeing shades that seem in a random place, help to show how you can experiment and combine different colours. I do like to use colour, but I usually tend to to stick to a neutral base.

Above swatches are in order top row; Redemption, Bend & Snap!, Ivy, Slasher, and 5am.

Second row; Roxy Catan, VLA, Mikai, Mila, and Underground.

Third row; Plot Twist, Aura, Basic Trut, All-in, and Ew.

Last row; Pride, Zomer, Mama Tutorials, Amsterdam, and Mr Tutorials.

Has anyone tried this palette before? What do you all think?

Soph X Revolution Highlighter Palette

If you're anything like me then you're a sucker for a shiny new highlighter or highlighter palette. I love most highlighters that I've tried but I am in love with this palette. This palette is a collaboration with Sophdoesnails, a Youtuber, I've linked to her channel if you've never watched her before, shes wonderful, and Revolution makeup. She has an eye shadow palette as well but I have so many eye shadow palettes I couldn't bring myself to get another. Now I've never had a highlight specific palette before, it's always been a contour style palette so I was very excited to have a play with all the different shades in the palette. It's also so affordable but wonderful, I think it was only ten Euro.

I'm not sure if the highlighter shades have names or not, as they don't on the packaging but there is five baked really shimmery shades and three pressed slightly less shimmery shades. There's a white shimmer shade, a purple toned one, a gold toned one, a rose gold toned one, and the other three are slightly more pink toned. My favourite is the first one in the palette the white shimmer one, I also like the purple toned one, the second on the second row. As I'm usually a pale person lighter highlighters suit my skin tone more, and I use the other shades as blush and other parts of my cheeks rather than my cheek bones.

The product is very pigmented and spreads easily over the cheeks. I like that there is so much variation in the shades, which means that there is something that will suit everyone and it also opens up some experimentation with shades, which I like to do. They're all just so pretty.

The swatches are in order, the top row followed by the second.

Has anyone else tried this and loved it like me? What are your favourite highlighters?

February Favourites | 2018

I love the alliteration of the title of this post. I have not done a favourites video in a long time, usually because I'm that person who uses the same products all the time. Yet, over Christmas I've gathered a lot of new products to try out so I thought I'd share the things that I've been loving for the past while.

I'm going to start with beauty favourites, so during Christmas I had the NYX lipstick calendar, which contained 24 NYX mini lipsticks, which I love, there's only about two or three that I would never wear. I decided to pick my three favourites from them to share with you. The first one is a butter lipstick in the shade Root Beer Float, which is a purple toned pink, but it's a dark nude colour when  on the lips. This is like a regular lipstick with a soft finish. The next lipstick is the NYX lip lingerie in the shade Exotic, which I have had a full version before and loved, this is a dark pink/red liquid lipstick, and these are my favourite liquid lipsticks I own. And the last NYX lipstick is the soft matte lip cream in the shade Copenhagen, which is a deep purple red, matte lip colour. I love that they are all minis too, so easy for travel.

The next beauty products are from Tanya Burr, I'm not too sure if they're only from her Christmas range or not. The first is a lip gloss in the shade Cranberry Melt, I'm not massively into lip glosses, but recently I've been into more subtle shades, of which this is although it looks a deep red colour. Also her nail varnish in the shade festive red, which I think the two are a good combination.

The next few things are perfume and scent related. The first one is from Zoella's Christmas range, it's a body mist aptly called Snow'ella. This body mist is very calming and smells fresh, floral and minty. I like it because it's a little subtle. The other perfume I've chosen for my favourites is Lady Million, this is the female branded version of One Million, which I love. I'm very bad at describing scents but you can click on the link if you're interested in a proper description. It's always one of my favourites and a staple scent.

On to other non-beauty related favourites over the past month. If I did a favourites in January my top favourite would be the Greatest Showman film and soundtrack. If you haven't seen or listened to anything from this yet, what are you doing with your life? I know there's a handful of people that dislike it, but they're wrong. The only thing I disliked was a few of the plot structure and flow, but overall, the experience, atmosphere and the production of the film was amazing. Also I absolutely love all the cast, Hugh Jackman being my favourite. The composers and lyricists who made La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen created the music for this film so you'll know straight away it's amazing. If you want to check out my cover of This Is Me, you can watch it here.

Another favourite is watching films and TV shows from DisneyLife rather than Netflix recently. If you don't know what DisneyLife is, it's a Netflix purely for Disney productions, and who doesn't love a good Disney film? It's also safe to say over the past few months that I've more than likely watched them all.

My last favourites are the Malteasers mini Teasers, which I didn't have any left for the photos, ooops. These are small versions of the Teasers bar, I think they originally come from the Christmas celebration tins. You could get these in little chocolate boxes for Valentines for which I happily received, and they are amazing and so cute.

What's everyone else's favourites been over the past month? Let me know!

Tanya Bakes | Dublin Book Signing

I'm so late with posts again I got really ill in the past week and haven't felt up to anything, it really sucks. I have a lot of posts to write and thought I'd share this one first. I'm a huge fan of Youtubers and I haven't met any of my favourite ones on any of their book signings until now. I've always tried to get tickets for book signings but I've always been too late or I didn't know it was on until the day. So when I heard Tanya Burr was coming to do a book signing of her first cook book Tanya Bakes, you can imagine my excitement that I was in time to buy tickets. My boyfriend actually surprised me with a ticket which I thought was super cute and I went along to the signing last weekend.

The signing started at half twelve and I wasn't sure what to expect. I had been in the queue since twelve and didn't think I was late queuing but it turns out I was one of the last people to turn up and didn't actually get my book signed until three o' clock. You can imagine my boredom of being in a queue for four hours for the majority by myself. I read the book in the line by myself, it's a baking book though so you can imagine that was a short read.

The whole signing only lasted a few seconds. She signed my book, said hello and we got a selfie and I was swiftly moved along. I always find that the whole signing experience can be a very impersonal experience and it makes me feel very disconnected to someone who I've admired and wanted to meet for a long time. You get no time for any conversation which is disappointing even though you know you won't get to have a fully blown conversation. I was very happy to meet her as it's something I've been looking forward to and she was such a lovely person but I'm not sure if I'd go to another signing. It doesn't feel very worth it for the amount of time you wait for the amount of time you wait. I think it's great that so many people get to meet her and it makes a lot of people happy, but it felt organised and rushed and not that pleasant. Even though I left in a good mood after meeting her, and it's great meeting people you admire but sometimes it's not as great as you want it to be.

Has anyone ever been to a book signing like this? What's your experience with them?

June Favourites 2016

I didn't do a May favourites last month and it bothers me because I was doing so well with keeping up with this series. The end of May and start of June have been the most hectic two months and I've been constantly doing things or trying to do things. With how busy I've been I haven't got many favourites this month in comparison to usual but it means I love these things so much more so enjoy!

My first favourite this month is the I Heart Makeup Blushing Hearts triple baked blush. I got this in Superdrug over in Birmingham and I literally thought it was the cutest thing ever, seriously how cute is the packaging?  It's a three dimensional blush with three different shades. They're all so pretty on, so pigmented and very sparkly. It looks really cute as a pop of colour on the cheeks and the shimmer helps add dimension to your face, and how can you resist buying something as cute as this?

My next favourite is a bloggers convinced me to buy this product product. It's the NYX soft matte lip cream in the shade Cannes. I've read about this shade on nearly every bloggers blog and every vloggers Youtube. This lip cream is my go to lipstick at the moment it's amazing. It's both a soft pink shade but it's also quite dark on the lips it's complicated but so beautiful. I wear this almost every day and I love how matte it is. It goes matte quickly after applying and doesn't dehydrate the lips. It has very long wear I wear it for over four hours without reapplying and most of the time it stays looking the same. Even if it does fade a little it's very subtle and you don't notice it which I love about lipsticks. There's nothing worse than not being able to reapply lipstick and your lips only have lipstick on the edges.

The swatches are of the I Heart Makeup Blushing Hearts blush in order and NYX Cannes.

The next favourite is a food which is always a good choice to throw in, who doesn't love a bit of chocolate? The chocolate bar I've been loving and snacking on too much lately is the Wilton Candy Macaroon bar. This bar is so so nice. The chocolate is so rich and it contains little pieces of dried coconut which tastes fab. The bar is also only forty cents, what a bargain. No wonder I eat so many.

I've also been loving the W7 Bronze Queen eyeshadow Palette. I bought this last year in TXMaxx for cheap enough and picked it back up recently and realized I love it. I originally bought it because I fell in love with the sparkly gold shade and I still love it. They're all quite pigmented and subtle and generally just good value, definitely a good bargain palette to buy. The packaging feels really heavy and sturdy too, it looks pretty sleek if I say so myself.

My last favourites are film and music related as I like to throw these in at the end too. I've been loving Twenty One Pilots new song Heathens, surprise surprise. It's going to be in the Suicide Squad movie and I'm so proud of them. The song seems like it fits the film perfectly while still keeping that Twenty One Pilots edge to it. Check it out if you haven't, I also covered it over on my Youtube if you want to have a noisy at that too, I'll link it here.
I also went to see the new Alice in Wonderland recently and loved it. The story wasn't too great and it overall was very flawed but for me Alice in Wonderland is all about the aesthetics and characters which were amazing and the film was so colourful and beautiful and that made me enjoy it even if it lacked in other places. Plus I finally got the Urban Decay Alice palette and I'm currently swooning over it. I shall hopefully do a blog review soon so get excited.

How was everyones June? What have you all been loving this month?

Someday Summary 8.4.16

The past two weeks have been hectic for me but I finally feel like things are settling back into place and that makes me happy. I've a few things planned to put on my blog so I like being organised plus I have a few things to look forward to so yay. I've a lot of spare time today so I thought I'd do a little summary of my day and other various assortments while I can.

  • Before college today myself and Jack went on a cute breakfast/brunch date just for the sake of it. I got a cookie hot chocolate, if you consider Oreos a cookie and he got green tea in a green cup. Then we shared banana and caramel pancakes, yum. They were so good, although I do wish I got the strawberry one because they're my fave.
  • We booked tickets to Slam Dunk festival in Birmingham in May, which means we get to see Panic! At the Disco, Moose Blood, As It Is, The Story So Far, Real Friends, Roam and so much more. Literally so many musicians I love and at a festival. It's something I'm super excited for, plus I get to leave the country for a while, how exciting.
  • I've been really loving college lately. Not that it's not stressful I just really love my class mates and course lately, even though I've double the amount of assignments this semester. I'm going to be sad to leave for the summer.
  • I've a huge amount of Easter chocolate in my room which is a blessing and a disaster, I literally will have so much chocolate for ages, not sure whether it's good or bad. Mini Eggs and Lindt chocolate are angels.
  • I've felt like I haven't been listening to good music recently and I've gotten into listening to more pop punk, indie and alternative stuff again and it makes me so happy. I recently went to see The 1975 and have been enjoying their music and the pop vibes and chill like quality. My favourite songs are 'Love Me' and 'Somebody Else'. Also today actually I started to listen to Melanie Martinez and I really love her stuff, especially 'Pity Party' at the moment. It's very Marina and the Diamonds-esque AKA my favourite artist ever so I'm gonna love her I can already tell.
  • On the topic of music I've been uploading more covers over on my YouTube if you wanna have a nosey, I'll put the link here, shameless plug. My most recent cover is of Demi Lovato's 'Catch Me.'
How's everyone else today? Have you any good news?

Recent Reads

As I study English I have a lot of books to read for college and even more to come and I've not enough time to read recreational books just because I want to. I really wanted to get back into reading the kinds of books I wanted to and have picked myself rather than just being prescribed them. So over my midterm I've read a few books that I thought I could review on a new series of blog posts, if it works out. Anyway on to the books.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon:
The first book I finished this year was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, one I've been dying to read for a long time. I've hear so much about this book, especially from my boyfriend, who says it's the best book ever, so that gave me high expectations from the get-go. I also saw that it has become a play, which really interests me so I wanted to read the book before hopefully seeing the play soon.

The book wasn't quite what I expected it to be. I expected it to be more of a murder mystery Sherlock Holmes type novel, but it was different than that. The book follows a little boy with Asperger's syndrome which I actually had no clue what it was like until I read the book so it was teaching me on the way. The plot is about the boy, Christopher who finds his neighbours dog has been murdered and is on the hunt to find the culprit. Christopher has a practical and mathematical way of interpreting the world and I enjoyed being inside his head and seeing and learning all the things he thinks. The story itself is enjoyable but also kind of sad. It's written in a way that it feels less emotional and the narrative is lighthearted and humorous at parts. I felt angry and sad at parts as I got really involved in the book and I finished it within three hours of starting it.

I really did love the book but I feel it had been over hyped for me and I don't know what I was expecting from it, a little like how I felt with John Green's The Fault in our Stars. In my head I saw the storyline going a different way than it did so I guess the story left me pleasantly surprised at what it was really about. Overall it is definitely a great read and a really well thought out and written story, it's easy and fun to read and is going to be a great classic for years to come I think.

All My Sons by Authur Miller:
This book/play is yet another recommendation from my boyfriend, who'd previously studied the book and told me that I would enjoy it and it'd be something I'd like. He was right, he'll love reading that. I don't usually read plays but it's something I could definitely get into the habit of doing, recommendations would be welcome. Also this play was the top of my reading list due to the fact my favorite band Twenty One Pilots got their name from this play, fun fact.

The play revolves around the Keller family who have lost their son Larry who has been missing for three years. The mother refuses to believe the son is dead and refuses to let her other son, Chris marry 'Larry's girl' Ann Deever. Ann's father was sent to jail for allowing damaged cylinders to be used in aircrafts which killed twenty one pilots. The father Joe had been part of the same company but did not take any responsibility for it, this causes tension between the two families.

The play was short and very entertaining. There's a lot going on and all the characters are very strong. I loved the plot line and the way the story unraveled. It had a really nice progression, climax and ending. I would definitely love to see this play live too, another one on my bucket list. I felt like I knew the characters really well even in the short space of time it took me to read it, I was engrossed in the story and could imagine them all performing on a stage really clearly in my mind.

All I Know Now by Carrie Hope Fletcher
For those of you who might not know her, Carrie Hope Fletcher is the sister to Tom Fletcher from McFly and a Youtuber.  She was up until the past month Epoinne in the West End production of Les Miserables, my all time favourite musical and dream role. I'm a huge fan of everything Carrie produces and when I saw she was releasing a book I knew I had to get it, she's actually working on a new book right now too.

The book is basically an autobiography filled with little tips on how she survived certain situations and also giving out general tips like how to survive bullying and break ups. The book is interesting as her life has been quite interesting and she writes in a way that draws you in and makes you feel like part of the story. It's humorous and generally light-hearted even when dealing with deeper issues.

Although I enjoyed reading it, it wasn't really the type of book I would read again. I enjoyed it because I love hearing about her life but the advice section of the chapters weren't really any help to me, probably because I'm much older and not in school anymore. Some tips were helpful but I feel like they would be better use to someone else rather than me, even though she has a really great advice section in each chapter and as the book goes on I do see myself relating to all of them throughout my life and not just now.

Overall, I would recommend all of these books for different reasons. 'All I know Now' for the suvival and advice aspect, 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime' for it's creativity and emotion and 'All My Sons' also for emotion, truth and suspense. My favourite is probably 'All My Sons' but the other two are much easier and lighter to read.

Has anyone read any of these books before? What do you think?
