Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Review

Seems like theres nothing but sequels and continuations of films out recently. 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' is a sequel to the 2011 film 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes.' If you loved the first film you will love this one too.

The film shows the collapse of human civilisation due to a deadly virus and in order for the humans to regain their power source they must gain access and rebuild a hydroelectric dam in the forest which is home to the apes. The apes threaten the humans if they trespass again, there will be a war. The humans manage to convince the ape leader, Caesar from the previous film to give them a few days to rebuild the dam and they promise to leave them alone after. But tensions remain between humans and apes and it becomes a battle to keep the peace.

I honestly enjoyed this film. I did begin to wonder at the start that it wasn't going to be any good but it was definitely worth a watch. It is very emotional and actually cried a lot. Watching it you won't know what side you're routing for, each side is just looking after and protecting their families. It really shows the meaning of a home and really makes you appreciate your family and home. Graphic wise it's done amazingly but that's what you'd expect these days anyway. The apes felt so real, alive and full of emotion, almost even better than the actors. The plot, characters and emotions in the film all were great and there's nothing bad for me to say about the film at all. The ending leaves the franchise with a lot they can do with it and I can't wait to see what else they do with it.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 Review

How to Train Your Dragon was such a cute film but when I heard they were making a sequel, I wasn't quite sure what they were going to do with it. So I obviously went to see it anyway having loved the first one. The first film finishes with the vikings and dragons living amongst each other and this is where the sequel picks of from. The film takes place five years after the first includes all the characters from the previous movie including everyones favourite dragon, Toothless. The film begins with Hiccup finding new islands with Toothless and they soon find that they have a new threat on their hands. They find themselves in the middle of a battle to protect the peace between dragons and vikings.

I thought the film was really good, I didn't feel bored at any moment during it. There were moments during it that had good twists to keep viewers interested. It was a happy, uplifting and fun film that is suitable for anyone. There were a few very emotional parts of the film that I didn't expect and they almost had me in tears. The film flows really well and is animated in 3D and looks well also. Toothless is my favourite character, he doesn't speak but I find myself laughing at his motions and movements. I really think this is a good film for not only kids but adults too, it's such a good family film. You leave the cinema feeling happy and cheery, so if your ever feeling down, go and see this film.

Maybelline Baby Lips Review

I am the worst person for having dry lips ever. I constantly have dry lips no matter what I do. My friend gave me a lend of her Maybelline 'Baby Lips' one day and it honestly has made such a huge difference! My lips feel moisturised and nourished when I apply this lip balm. Personally I find lip balms really useless to me and that's why I never bought 'Baby Lips' when they came out but I am glad that I have come to try them.

They retail at €3.99 which is cheap and cheerful. I have bought 'Hydrate' and 'Cherry Me'. 'Hydrate' comes in blue packaging and comes out clear on your lips. While 'Cherry Me' comes in orange packaging and comes out a light shade of red on your lips. It also smells like cherries. They both contain SPF20 and do leave your lips feeling baby soft. For me I prefered 'Hydrate' as it was clear and it seemed to have a better effect on my lips, they never felt chapped or dry with it on and it really did feel hydrating. I currently have just finished the intire tube, which is rare for me to finish a lip balm. I really recommend this to people who have dehydrated lips or just want their lips to feel smooth and soft.

5 Seconds of Summer Album

Say hello to my new obsession! This band has been one I've had my eye on for a while and as soon as the album came out I was hooked. 5 Seconds of Summer is a pop punk/pop rock band from Australia. The band consists of four members, Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood and Michael Clifford, all of which are amazingly talented and adorable.

Their first album '5 Seconds of Summer' was released on June 27 in Europe and I've had it constantly on replay since. The songs are very upbeat and features a lot of guitar and catchy tunes. The guitar in the songs isn't heavy and they are mainly pop with catchy lyrics based on life as a teenager. The lyrics aren't very deep and meaningful but are very easy to sing along to. I really like the songs as a few were co-written by Alex Gaskarth, a member of my favourite band, All Time Low who are also a pop punk band.

My favourite songs on the album are 'Voodoo Doll', 'Amnesia' and 'Good Girls.' 'Voodoo Doll' and 'Good Girls' are quite rocky with good catchy choruses and a good beat to them, I literally can't stop myself from singing along or breaking into a slight dance when I hear them. 'Ammesia' is the slowest and most heartfelt song on the album about remembering a past relationship and wishing you could 'wake up with amnesia' and forget it all. It's a very relatable song for me and sometimes it makes me want to cry but I love it a lot.

Other songs on the album are the songs that have been released like 'She Looks So Perfect' and 'Don't Stop' which I hear on the radio all the time and have proven to be popular. They are touring next year with their 'Rock Out With Your Socks Out' tour and I cannot wait to see them live!

I am expecting even bigger things for this band and if you haven't listened to them, what are you waiting for?

OOTD: Floral Shorts

I got these red, kind of orangey shorts with a white flower pattern on them the other day. I fell in love with them instantly. I originally thought it was a skirt but I muh prefer them as shorts. They're really flowy and super comfy to wear, They're just perfect for a really hot summers day! I got them in New Look in a sale for €14, I think they were originally €22.

My crop top is from Berska, for around €7.99 I think, I forgot to check the price tag before I put it on. And my boots are from Pennys (Primark) for €20 a good while ago so I doubt they still have them.

The girl beside me in the photo is my good friend Rachel who has kindly allowed me to put her on my blog. Also I'm sorry all my photos are bad quailty all of them have been taken on my phone due to the fact I've no laptop to upload photos to.

Transformers: Age of Extinction Review

I saw this film last weekend which confused me a little as I heard the release date was for the 10th of July. I heard a lot of negative reviews for this film which I tried to ignore but I didn't keep high hopes for it being any good.

Age of Extinction is the fourth Transformers film and is directed by Michael Bay as previous films and Steven Spielberg as the executive producer. The human cast of the film is entirely new and I really prefered these characters to previous characters in the franchise. The film includes the remaining Autobots and introduces the Dinobots.

The plot of the film is a little complicated and I feel as if there was way too much going on all at once. It felt like instead of having the usual one enemy, this movie had more than it needed. It felt like I was watching multiple movies at once. This may be due to the fact I managed to miss the first five minutes of the movie and may have missed something major at the start that would have eased my confusion.

I don't want to ruin the plot or spoil too much of the storyline for people who haven't seen it and want to. You don't need any prior knowledge of Transformers or the films to undersrand what is happening. As usual the effects and robots look amazing and are done brilliantly. The film definetly looks good! There seemed to be a lot of product placement in the film, maybe I just thought that but somethings just seemed too exaggerated not to be an advertisement. If you wanted to see dinosaurs in the film, I'm afraid you'll have to settle for the Dinobots who are introduced briefly. I was expecting there to be a lot of dinosaurs in the film which was a stupid expectation as it's a film about robots. There was one oe two humourous parts and elements to the film. My favourite robot is Bumblebee so I tend to laugh a lot at things he does and says anyway.

I did enjoy the film, however it felt extremely long. It's longer than the other films of the franchise and you can definitely feel it. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was shorter and they cut some unnecessary parts out. I may just be a little cynical but it was very visually pleasing and I will watch it again someday.

Topshop Lip Markers

I have never bought any make up from Topshop before despite it being my favourite clothing store. The make up from the shop always looks so pretty but I just never buy any for some reason. I recently bought two lip markers there though to try because I really liked the colours and they were on sale. I bought the shades 'berry' and 'parade.' Berry is a deep red colour and Parade looks similar on the packaging, it's a lighter shade of red but comes out a little more orange.

They are best applied with a base of some sort of lip balm as the colour tends to stick to places where your lips may be dryer. The colour after applying os fabulous! My favourite is Berry as dark red lips are something I adore and are perfect for a night out. The colour lasts literally all day, and it's hard to get off if you need to but I like that it's long lasting. You might need to top up but it looks just as well without doing so. I haven't used them too much but I do think the only concern with these is that they will dry out and I think it's not going to last too long. Other than that, I really like how they come out and how they look on!

In the swatch berry is on the left and parade is on the right.

Rimmel London Wake Me Up foundation & concealer

I'm extremely bad at trying new foundations as I always just have a fear that I won't like the way they feel. I'm a very fussy person with everything so no surprises there. I recently read a few blog posts raving about the Rimmel London Wake Me Up foundation and concealer, it gets great reviews and I've heard it's perfect for summer.

I purchased the Wake Me Up concealer in the shade 010 Ivory for €6.99 and the foundation in the shade 103 true ivory for €10.99 both from Boots. I honestly fell in love with them as soon as I tried them both. They both give such a good coverage and are so easy to apply. The foundation is so easy to blend out and blending it is probably my favourite part of applying make up at the moment. I'm quite pale and this shade matches my skin perfectly and gives my skin a glow. It has SPF 15 as well which is a good benefit. This foundation is perfect for summer as it is so light and doesn't need to be applied in great quantities to have a great effect.

I'm definitely going to repurchase these when I run out and it's my go to foundation and concealer of the summer.
